Old Media is Dying – Start A Conversation

Are you still marketing using old media and one way conversations? Do you have a static website that hasn’t been updated in over a year?What’s the ROI (return on investment) on your expensive Yellow Pages ad? Do you still read a Newspaper? Magazine? Even television is loosing share.

Your clients and colleagues have moved on.

  • Call it web 2.0, social marketing, social networking, folks using the internet expect a conversation. Respond to folks you take the time to comment on your blog.
  • Linkedin has made some significant changes in the past year – update your profile and join in conversations in groups. Don’t be shy to give recommendations to all those amazing folks who help you.
  • Take the time to share information and articles on twitter. Retweet messages that will be of interest to your followers.

  1. I have a blog, participate on a number of LinkedIn discussion groups, and make a serious attempt to keep up with other blogs with comments and retweets. At the same time, however, I have serious concerns with young people who seem to be losing the ability to converse with either adults or even with each other. Younger employees have a difficult time making eye contact with our clients. And I worry that their business correspondance is filled with poor punctuation and mispellings as CUL8r is considered to be normal communication.

    Am I the only one with concerns about this?

  2. I agree 100% with you Kay. I think it’s the texting generation, pumping out content on a cellphone even if it’s smart is a challenge, so they’ve invented a whole new language.

    That said, I have to admit I rely on spell check to keep my content legible.

    I enjoyed your Biz Bitch blog “We;re Not Limping” – we need more straight talk .. we’re give lip service to being “real, raw and relevant” but few of us follow through. Thanks for taking the time to comment on my blog post.
